Together with MaX – the Swedish Navy’s experimentation office, operated by the Swedish Naval Warfare Centre – MTC is looking for companies and technology providers that can contribute solutions to real-world needs identified by the Swedish Navy.
Do you have a technology, product or solution that could address one of these challenges? Explore the needs, present your solution and get the opportunity to develop it further together with those working directly on the challenge.
MaX – the Swedish Navy’s experimentation office, operated by the Swedish Naval Warfare Centre – works with operational needs identified by naval units. It provides an opportunity to develop and test solutions in close dialogue with end users and in response to real-world needs.
MaX – the Swedish Navy’s experimentation office – identifies operational needs and experiments with new solutions for the Swedish Navy.
MTC works with MaX to provide an open pathway for companies and other organisations with relevant technologies. We identify, gather and help advance solutions that could address the needs identified by MaX.
This gives your company the opportunity to present your technology directly to those responsible for the operational need – with the aim of enabling relevant solutions to move forward to demonstration, experimentation and testing.
The challenges are based on specific needs identified within the Swedish Navy. From the outset, you know exactly which problem your solution is intended to help solve.
Solutions selected for demonstration will be funded by MaX. The scope and setup will be tailored to what is required for the demonstration.
You don’t need to arrange the test site or all the practical requirements yourselves. MTC helps provide the test environment, infrastructure, permits and practical support needed to carry out the test.
Selected solutions will have the opportunity to be demonstrated and evaluated together with MaX – the Swedish Navy’s experimentation office.
A successful test provides a basis for the next step. What that means depends on the solution, the need and the outcome of the test.
You don’t need to have a complete experiment planned or know exactly how the test should be carried out.
First, we need to understand what your solution does, how mature it is, and why it could be relevant to the need.
Present your solution to MTC. We’ll guide you through the process and work with MaX to assess relevant solutions and determine the next steps.
Here you’ll find the current needs for which we’re looking for companies and technology providers with relevant solutions.
Create a reliable situational picture in the challenging marine environment, both above and below the surface, with a particular focus on the Baltic Sea. Relevant systems include, but are not limited to, sensor fusion, real-time data analysis, AI, and the use of space-based information (space situational awareness) to improve tactical decision-making.
This area covers the development of uncrewed surface, aerial and underwater vehicles (USV, UAV and UUV) and their ability to operate together in multi-domain operations. The focus is on how autonomous capabilities can provide persistent presence, redundancy and military effect, as well as on developing capabilities to counter adversary uncrewed systems (Counter-UxV).
The seabed has become increasingly important from a strategic perspective, making the protection of subsea cables, sensor networks and energy infrastructure essential. Innovation in this area aims to improve situational awareness and control of the seabed, deter and counter sabotage, and strengthen resilience and redundancy in critical societal functions.
Safe and effective naval operations depend on resilient PNT services, particularly in environments where GNSS (e.g. GPS) may be disrupted or manipulated. The call seeks GNSS-independent positioning and resilient communication solutions that maintain command and control capabilities even in contested environments.
To reduce dependence on fossil fuels, new energy solutions are needed for maritime platforms and other systems. This is also linked to the need for reduced signatures and increased survivability, enabling vessels and systems to operate for extended periods. Effective energy density should exceed 1.5 kWh/kg and 1.3 kWh/litre.
1. Find a relevant challenge
Explore the current needs identified by MaX and determine where your technology, product or solution could be relevant.
2. Present your solution
Provide the information we need for an initial assessment – what your solution does, how it addresses the need and how far it has progressed in its development.
3. Assessment and selection
MTC manages the initial submission process. Relevant solutions move forward for assessment together with MaX, based on factors including relevance to the need, technological maturity and potential.
4. Show what your solution can do
Selected solutions may move forward to more in-depth discussions, demonstrations, experiments or testing together with MaX.
If anything is unclear, or you simply want to discuss an idea, feel free to get in touch!
Have you checked our FAQ? We’ve gathered answers to the most common questions further down the page.
Do you have a solution that could address one of our current challenges? Tell us briefly what you have and why it is relevant.
You do not need to provide a complete test plan. The information will be used for an initial assessment and as a basis for any further discussions.
Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our current challenges – from who can participate and what types of solutions we are looking for to how selection, testing, funding and information handling work.
We are primarily looking for companies and technology providers with solutions that could address the current challenge. The solution does not need to have been developed specifically for the maritime sector.
We are looking for solutions that have progressed beyond the laboratory stage and are ready for further testing in relevant environments. The solution should therefore have reached a certain level of technological maturity, but does not need to be fully developed. We are interested both in solutions that require further development and validation and in solutions that are ready for demonstration in operationally relevant environments.
No. Technologies from areas such as industry, automation, AI, energy and other sectors may be highly relevant. What matters is whether the solution can address the need.
Swedish and international companies are welcome to participate, but both the solution and the company must be able to meet the requirements of the specific challenge and any potential testing.
Select the challenge that best matches your solution and complete the Present Your Solution form. We primarily want to understand what your solution does, how it addresses the need and how far it has progressed in its development.
No. If your solution is selected, we will help create the practical conditions needed for it to be demonstrated or tested.
This may include providing access to a relevant test environment and infrastructure, as well as assisting with permits, security requirements and other practical arrangements needed to carry out the test.
Each test is planned based on the solution and the specific need. You bring the technology – together, we create the conditions to test it.
Solutions are assessed based on factors including how well they address the need, their technological maturity, and their suitability for demonstration or testing.
Selected solutions may move forward to more in-depth discussions and the opportunity to demonstrate or test the solution together with MaX. The exact setup will depend on the specific challenge and solution.
Yes. We fund the demonstration and testing of solutions selected to move forward. The scope of the funding is determined by the solution and what is required for the specific demonstration or test.
The initial submission should only include the information needed to understand and assess the solution. Do not submit security-classified information or any other information requiring special security handling through the web form.
Presenting a solution does not transfer ownership of the supplier’s technology to MTC or MaX. Any terms relating to subsequent development, demonstration or testing will be agreed separately before such work begins.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you’re always welcome to get in touch with us.
