Focus Areas

Here we operate - our focus areas

We work across disciplines in marine technology areas that are crucial for Sweden’s security, growth, and innovation power. Our initiatives bring together academia, industry, and society – and all our areas are open to new collaborations.

Defense & Security

Defense & Security

Sweden’s marine defense capability is entering a new era, where technology, research, and innovation must interact to meet future requirements.

Challenge / Opportunity:
The strategic importance of the oceans is rapidly increasing. This demands robust technical solutions, secure communication, and advanced autonomy.

There are great opportunities for new collaborations between defense, industry, and academia.

What MTC does:
MTC acts as a link between research, companies, and defense. We drive innovation projects, facilitate collaborations, and support the development of next-generation marine technology and defense systems.
We are the arena where ideas are tested, technologies are verified, and future solutions emerge.

Marine infrastructure

Marine infrastructure

Secure and sustainable underwater systems – for energy, communication, and societal functions.

Challenge / Opportunity:
Marine infrastructure is the foundation of our modern world. From power cables and data links to energy transfer and security systems on the seabed – protecting and developing these is a growing challenge.

What MTC does:
We collaborate with actors such as NKT and Saab to strengthen Swedish expertise in underwater technology and protection of critical infrastructure.
Through research, test beds, and innovation projects, we contribute to solutions that make Sweden more resilient, technologically leading, and ready for the future.
