Would you like to help solve future marine challenges, developed by FMV – Swedish Defence Materiel Administration?
Now you have the opportunity to work with real defense and security challenges in marine technology. As a team, you’ll use your creativity, technical knowledge, and problem-solving skills to develop innovative solutions for current scenarios.
Two teams will be selected to complete the challenge – and the selected teams will receive a 75,000 SEK scholarship to further develop their ideas. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with experts, build networks with industry-leading companies, and showcase your ideas to future employers.
Whether you’re a future engineer, systems scientist, or interested in technology and innovation – here’s your chance to make a difference!
Read more about the challenges and how to register below.
You and your team need to choose one of the challenges and then describe your ideas and proposed solutions in your application. Your presentation of these thoughts will form the basis for selection, where two teams will ultimately be chosen to complete the challenges.
Repeated sabotage is directed at underwater infrastructure such as cables and sensors connected to Sweden and our allies. How can we use smart technology and effective methods to prevent, detect, document, and stop these attacks?
A foreign power has disabled GNSS across Sweden. How can we ensure stable navigation and positioning despite interference?
Drones are becoming an increasing threat to critical infrastructure and defense systems. How can we detect, identify, and protect against hostile drones in marine environments?
Sweden no longer has the ability to receive or refine crude oil. What alternatives to crude oil exist for our society, civil defense, and military vehicles and vessels?

The Final Result
The final deliverable should consist of a physical prototype or an advanced digital prototype that clearly shows your solution and its function. The prototype should be sufficiently developed so that those who experience it can easily understand the concept and its potential.
In addition to the prototype, you should also deliver a technical report that describes your solution, including design choices, technical aspects, and any tests you have conducted. The report should provide a clear picture of how and why your solution works.
Yes, it’s fine if it’s something that’s already started. It doesn’t have to be a completely new idea. However, originality and feasibility can certainly influence the selection.
About Participation and Teams
Yes, you need to be a registered student at BTH to participate.
You decide how many people you need to best solve the task, so there’s really no limit on numbers. However, the 75,000 SEK scholarship is paid to the team, not individuals. So the amount is divided among team members.
No, the requirement is that you must be a registered student at BTH. We encourage teams with participants from different educational backgrounds, but it’s not a requirement.

Scholarship, Terms, and Requirements
The two selected teams receive 75,000 SEK each to complete the challenge. The budget should primarily be used for technology purchases and other project-related costs, such as materials, tests, and potential travel.
However, there is some flexibility to use the funds in ways that best support your work.
These funds will be paid in installments according to the challenge terms.
The two teams selected to complete their chosen challenge will receive half of the scholarship at project start and the other half after meeting certain criteria in the terms. Read more about them here.
The first payment is 50% of the total amount, 37,500. The team receives this at project start in mid-May. The remaining amount will be paid to the team after certain criteria have been met, read more about these in the terms.
